Australia's squad reshuffle for the deciding ODI against South Africa
The injury blow to Nathan Ellis and Joel Davis has prompted a reshuffle of Australia’s line‑up for the third One Day International versus South Africa. With the series already lost after two defeats, the Australian side is focused on restoring pride.
Captain Pat Cummins, who did not bowl in the previous match, is being considered to take Ellis’s place in the pace attack. Mitchell Starc, rested after the second game, is also a strong contender for the playing eleven. Meanwhile, the team may leave out Josh Hazlewood, who featured in the first two ODIs, to accommodate the changes.
Australia’s management also noted that the replacement for Davis has not yet been named, leaving the spin department thin. The situation underscores the importance of versatile bowlers who can adapt to varying conditions.
Despite the setbacks, the squad remains optimistic about the upcoming three‑Test series that begins on October 9, hoping to bounce back from the one‑day losses.
