Australia eyes series win as Rencho opens with Head against Bangladesh

With the second Test against Bangladesh fast approaching, Australia has confirmed a revised XI that sees Matt Rencho stepping in as an opening batsman beside Trevor Head. The move comes after a disappointing first Test where opener Jake Weatherald failed to contribute, scoring 23 and a pair of zeroes.

Rencho’s résumé includes 645 runs from 24 innings across 14 Tests, highlighted by a top score of 184. His inclusion is intended to provide stability at the top of the order and to help the team recover from the 200‑run loss in Darwin.

Since the retirement of veteran David Warner, Rencho becomes the seventh opener for the side this year. The rest of the squad—featuring Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Cameron Green and a blend of pace and spin bowlers—remains unchanged.
