Australia posts 357, Zimbabwe folded for 272 as series edge widens

Australia amassed a formidable 357/6 on the opening day of the second one‑day international against Zimbabwe, courtesy of a flawless 112 from Travis Head off 84 balls. Cooper Konoli’s 78 from 69 balls and Mitchell Marsh’s 53 in 63 balls added weight to the total, while the tail pushed the score further, with Oliver Pike smashing an unbeaten 41 off just 18 balls.

Zimbabwe’s innings collapsed at 272 all out. The batting effort was anchored by a 46‑run opening partnership between Brian Bennett (23 off 46) and Ben Karen (30 off 46). Innocent Kayiya fell for 34 after 47 balls, and later Brandon Taylor (39 off 40) and Craig Ervin (38 off 39) attempted to revive the chase. Captain Sikandar Raja contributed 45 runs with five fours, and Brad Evans and Wesley Madhewere added modest scores of 12 and 26 respectively.

On the bowling front, Zimbabwe’s Josh Hazelwood, Cooper Konoli and Matt Rencho each captured two wickets, while Nathan Ellis and Oliver Pike each added one. Australia’s Brad Evans was the most successful bowler for the visitors, taking three wickets, and Wellington Masakadza returned figures of 2 for 51.

The victory gives Australia a 2‑0 unbeaten lead in the three‑match series, having previously defeated Zimbabwe by 59 runs in the series opener.
