Aussie all‑rounder Webster confident of retaining Test place amid selection battle

Darwin – The opening Test between Australia and Bangladesh is scheduled for 13 August, followed by a second match on 22 August. All‑rounder Beau Webster sees the series as a crucial audition to prove his worth.

At 32, Webster said the most important lesson since his debut has been understanding his own ability at the international level. He recalled the internal question, “Am I prepared?” and noted that real certainty arrives only after confronting overseas attacks in front of large crowds.

“Running hard scores has always been my ticket into the side. My performance in the first eight Tests, including five half‑centuries, shows I can be counted on as a top‑order batsman,” Webster said.

He acknowledged a direct challenge from teammate Cameron Green for a slot in the playing eleven, but framed the competition as beneficial.

“I like batting with Cameron – we both like to dominate the ball. If the situation demands we can reshuffle, and that makes it harder for management to leave me out of the eleven,” he explained.

To date, Webster has compiled 452 runs across 13 innings and claimed 11 wickets in eight Tests.
