Asian Para Games 2026: India's Best-Ever Medal Haul Reaches 114
India reached a historic milestone at the Asian Para Games 2026 on Friday, surpassing 114 total medals and posting its finest result in the competition's history.
The country collected 30 gold, 35 silver and 49 bronze medals across the Games. The gold tally is also a best-ever mark for India at the event.
India's previous best came at the 2023 Asian Para Games, where it won 111 medals, including 29 golds. The current squad has comfortably bettered that record, with nine gold medals added on Friday alone.
The 2026 Indian team was made up of 168 athletes, roughly half the size of the contingent at the last edition. Their performances, however, spoke louder than the numbers.
India is presently fourth in the medal table. Two years ago, the country ended the 2023 tournament in fifth place.
Athletics played the leading role in this success in Japan. The sport alone produced 65 medals, 12 more than India won in athletics at the previous Asian Games.
On Friday's javelin throw event, Sumit Antil took gold, Mahendra Gurjar earned silver and Sandeep Sargar won bronze, ensuring a clean sweep of the podium by Indian athletes.
Badminton also delivered. Thulasimathi Murugesan and Manasi Joshi won the women's doubles gold, while Thulasimathi and Nitesh collected silver in mixed doubles.
Mona Agarwal won the second gold of the 2026 Games in shooting. Archery and badminton added further momentum to India's campaign.
