Asian Games squash: India settles for bronze after semi‑final loss to Malaysia

The men's squash team event at the 2026 Asian Games concluded its semi‑final stage in Nagoya with Malaysia defeating India 2‑1, pushing the Indian side into the bronze‑medal game. The match was held at the Kinko Futo Arena on 1 October.

Abhay Singh, who had taken silver in the singles competition, was unable to challenge the tournament’s champion Yin Yo, succumbing 0‑3 (8‑11, 8‑11, 8‑11). His loss left India trailing.

Veer Chotaran steadied the Indian cause by beating Sanjay Jiwa convincingly, 3‑0 (11‑4, 11‑8, 11‑5), bringing the tie level at one match each.

In the final encounter, Welawan Senthilkumar fought hard against Malaysia’s Amisenraj Chandran. After snatching the first game 12‑10, Senthilkumar dropped the next three (6‑11, 8‑11, 9‑11). Chandran’s comeback secured the 3‑1 win and the overall 2‑1 team victory for Malaysia.

The defeat ended India’s bid for a gold‑medal showdown. The team will now compete against Pakistan for the bronze medal later in the tournament.
