Ashwin defends Rohit and Kohli’s right to continue playing for India

Referring to Rohit Sharma’s 138‑run performance at Lord’s, he said the batsman’s innings was “spectacular” and that with a little more confidence the score could have exceeded 180. Ashwin stressed that the seasoned pair have earned the right to choose their own retirement timeline. “They have nothing to prove to anyone. It’s a personal wish to be part of the World Cup squad,” he said. The former cricketer also pointed out that Rohit’s fan base and his ability to attract crowds make him indispensable for Indian cricket at this stage.
