Asha Ilango’s Final Jump Falls Short in Women’s Triple Jump Final

Competing in Aichi, Asha Ilango entered the last three attempts of the triple jump final needing to surpass 13.79 metres to claim a bronze. After a solid opening of 13.43 metres and a foul on her second try, she produced a 13.83‑metre jump that tied her with Li Yi. However, the countback rule favored the Chinese jumper, and Ilango’s subsequent jumps of 13.63, 13.65 and 13.59 metres could not improve her position. The event concluded with Uzbekistan’s Sharifa Davronova on top, Huang Yingying taking silver, and Li Yi earning bronze.
