AS Monaco ends contract with midfielder Pogba early

Monaco’s football department announced on 19 August that the club and Paul Pogba have mutually agreed to terminate the midfielder’s contract ahead of the new Ligue 1 campaign. The original contract slated to run until June 2027 was dissolved weeks before the first league fixture.

Having joined the club in the 2025 pre‑season after a lengthy hiatus from competitive action, Pogba sought to rebuild his physical condition and re‑enter elite football. While the club commended his professionalism, dedication and influence among the squad, especially the younger cohort, the on‑pitch opportunities did not match the expectations set at signing.

CEO Thiago Sclavero highlighted Pogba’s positive impact off the field, stating that his departure should not diminish the excitement generated by his return to the sport. He noted the midfielder’s willingness to mentor teammates, share his extensive experience and provide valuable advice.

In a brief farewell message, Pogba thanked the club’s hierarchy, teammates, staff and supporters for the trust placed in him. He described wearing the AS Monaco jersey as an honor and expressed appreciation for the experience, even though he could not feature as much as anticipated.

Now 33, Pogba departs Monaco to explore the next step in his career. The club extended its best wishes for his future endeavors.
