Abu Nechim Highlights APL's Role in Bridging State Cricket and Elite Opportunities
In a recent interview, former Indian fast bowler Abu Nechim stressed the Assam Premier League’s importance in narrowing the divide between state cricket and top‑level competition. He pointed out that the league’s eight franchises, operating under the Assam Cricket Association’s motto “Our Assam, Our Pride,” are providing a professional arena for local players.
“Each franchise aims to win the title, but the broader impact is that APL players can step directly into the IPL or a national call‑up,” Nechim said. “That’s the real opportunity the league creates, and it will benefit Assam cricket for years ahead.”
Nechim, who played for the Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, compared the APL to the journey of Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag, noting that the tournament offers a similar exposure for Assam’s youngsters.
The inaugural edition’s matches will be broadcast live on Star Sports and streamed on JioCinema, ensuring that the performances of emerging talent reach a nationwide audience.
