Ankush and Narendra Reach Semi‑Finals in Commonwealth Boxing

Glasgow, July 29 – India’s middle‑weight hopeful Ankush delivered a commanding 5‑0 win over Seychelles’ Jed Maikok in the 80kg quarter‑final. Wearing two differently coloured shoes at the coach’s request, Ankush said the gesture was a reminder of the importance of following guidance, especially on Guru Purnima. He dedicated the win to his family and coach, and expressed confidence that the team can lift gold after the semi‑finals.

In the heavyweight division, veteran boxer Narendra earned a place in the semi‑finals by edging Samoan Michael Seko 3‑2 in a split decision. He recalled studying Seko’s bouts and executing a pre‑planned strategy. Narendra honoured his late coach Devraj Sir on Guru Purnima, noting that hard work and resilience are essential, while also warning against injuries.

Both fighters highlighted the support from the Boxing Federation of India and stressed that the medal‑secure performances have boosted the team’s morale ahead of the final rounds.
