Amrinder Shines as Chennaiyin and Kerala Share Points 0-0
Goalkeeper Amrinder Singh was the defining figure as Chennaiyin FC and Kerala Blasters FC shared the points in a goalless draw in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2026-27. The match, played on Saturday at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (Marina Arena), finished 0-0 and was Chennaiyin's first home game of the season.
The hosts had plenty of chances to take the lead but could not convert them. The most notable was a penalty by Adrian Luna in the 49th minute, which hit the goalpost. Chennaiyin also struck the woodwork later in the game, when Irfan Yadwad's 69th-minute shot came back off the upper right corner of the crossbar.
Amrinder Singh made a series of key saves to keep Kerala in the game. His most important intervention came in the 89th minute, when he came out to deny Yadwad in a one-on-one situation, preserving the scoreline at a critical moment.
The match began at a high tempo, with both teams pressing aggressively and looking to break down the other's defence. Early attempts from both sides showed the intent to score first, and the midfield battles were fierce.
In the 31st minute, Madih Talal cleverly collected the ball, created room inside and struck a fine right-footed shot. Amrinder reacted quickly to push the ball away. Four minutes later, Ramon Tanke played Yadwad into the box, and his right-footed effort was again stopped by the goalkeeper, who kept his side's hopes alive.
Kerala weathered Chennaiyin's quick attacks and produced their own counter-attacks, sending several crosses into the box. However, the home defence remained disciplined, and the first half ended goalless.
In the 46th minute, Kerala made a substitution, bringing on Sumit Singh for Hormipam Ruivah. The second half saw more drama when Luna's cross towards Sanan was met by a foul from Yadwad. The ball then struck a Chennaiyin winger's hand, leading to a penalty. Luna stepped up, paused before his run-up and tricked the goalkeeper, but the shot rebounded off the post.
In the 54th minute, Andre Green latched onto a through ball and hit a strong left-footed shot, which Mohammed Nawaz saved. The game became increasingly heated, with pushing and arguments between the players of both sides.
Chennaiyin made changes around the hour mark, with Lalhriatpuia Chhangthu replacing Ayush Chhetri and S. Prakadeshwaran replacing Brison Fernandes. Kerala followed with changes in the 77th minute, introducing Vibin Mohanan for Corou Singh and MS Sreekuttan for Sanan. Momo Yansane replaced Luna five minutes later.
Tanke and Bhutia were withdrawn in the 87th minute, making way for Bryce Miranda and Dippenda Biswas. Two minutes later, Miranda's through ball found Yadwad, who tried to chip Amrinder but was denied in the 89th minute.
In the second minute of stoppage time, players from both teams clashed, and Green and Imanishimwe were sent off. That incident was the final action of a match that remained goalless.
