Ambati Rayudu’s Journey: Stellar IPL Record Amid Sparse International Chances

From his early days in Guntur, where coaches praised his ability to bat long innings on any surface, Ambati Rayudu progressed through the ranks, representing India Under‑19 in the 2004 World Cup and later delivering a match‑winning 177 against England in 2022. Despite these achievements, his senior international exposure remained limited: a debut ODI in 2013, a T20 debut in 2014, and a final ODI appearance in March 2019 against Australia. In total, he compiled 1,694 runs in ODIs, including three centuries. The Indian Premier League, however, became his primary arena. After the BCCI lifted the ICL ban, Mumbai Indians secured his services in 2009, leading to three IPL titles. A subsequent move to Chennai Super Kings added three more crowns, making Rayudu the only cricketer with six IPL championships. Over 204 matches he notched 1,000+ runs in multiple seasons, a solitary hundred and 22 fifties, cementing his legacy as a clutch middle‑order batsman. Since hanging up his boots, Rayudu has contributed as a commentator and now oversees cricket operations for the Hyderabad Cricket Association.
