Ahmed Asrarul Haq’s decisive goal helped MEG, Bengaluru register a 1-0 win over MYG, Mumbai in the Majid Ahmed Majju Seth All India Gold Cup football tournament organized by United Football and Welfare Association on Saturday. In this league match of the tournament being played at the Military Ground in Kamthi, Nagpur, the players of MEG and MYJ gave a tough competition to each other. But, in the 40th minute of the match, MEG made a brilliant move to score a goal. Haq opened the team’s account by putting the ball into MYJ’s goalpost with a header from his teammate’s right cross.
In the second half also, many attempts were made from both the teams to score a goal but they were not successful. However, the spectators present on the field were thoroughly entertained by the players of MEG and MYJ. The MEG goalkeeper brilliantly defended the continuous attack from MYJ and played an important role in maintaining his team’s lead till the long whistle of the referee. Due to this, the second half remained goalless and in the end Haq’s goal proved to be decisive in MEG’s victory.
Earlier in the knockout match played, CISF Delhi defeated Rahul Club of Nagpur 2-0 and showed its way out of the tournament. The first half of the match remained goalless, due to which the spectators present on the field had to wait a long time to see the goal. For the first 25 minutes of the second half, both the teams kept each other from scoring goals but in the 72nd minute of the match, JP Sahu scored a spectacular goal to give CISF a 1-0 lead. After this, just before the end of the match, in the 89th minute, Sahu scored the second goal for himself and his team and gave CISF a 2-0 victory over Rahul Club.
