Alcaraz Extends Winning Streak to Seven After Straight‑Set Victory
In Shanghai, Carlos Alcaraz recorded his seventh straight win by beating Argentine Juan Manuel Cerundolo 6-3, 6-3. The Spaniard’s relentless attacking play generated 24 winners and 13 net points from 20 opportunities, a stark contrast to Cerundolo’s eight winners and five net points.
The contest, lasting 66 minutes, showcased Alcaraz’s adaptability on a fast court. After an initial sluggish start, he altered his tactics and quickly found rhythm, overwhelming his opponent.
Alcaraz entered the tournament fresh from a Japan Open title and a US Open quarter‑final appearance, the latter ending in a loss to Ben Shelton. The Shanghai Masters is the only Masters 1000 event he has yet to win, with Canada and Paris still pending.
He will meet Jiri Lehecka in the third round. Alcaraz also revealed that his new moustache, agreed upon with his team before Tokyo, will stay for the week as a celebratory gesture.
