Ahmedabad Prepares for Commonwealth Games as Marathon Celebrates Armed Forces

As Ahmedabad gears up to host the Commonwealth Games in 2030, the city’s sporting calendar is highlighted by the 10th Adani Ahmedabad Marathon on November 29. Deputy Chief Minister and Sports Minister Harsh Sanghvi endorsed the event, underscoring its significance in promoting fitness, community participation and national pride.

The marathon’s "Run for Our Soldier" theme, now in its tenth year, brings together civilians and military personnel to honour the sacrifices of Indian soldiers. Sanjay Adesara, Chief Business Officer of Adani Sportsline, presented Sanghvi with the official race jersey, a gesture that reflects the close collaboration between the state and the event’s organizers.

Sanghvi remarked that the marathon showcases how sport can unite people around a common purpose, recalling historic battles from 1947 and the resolve displayed during Operation Sindoor. He highlighted the event’s role in strengthening Ahmedabad’s emerging sports ecosystem as the city prepares for the Commonwealth Games.

The race offers a full marathon, half marathon, 10 km and 5 km distances. Since its debut in November 2017, participation has remained robust, with the first two editions attracting about 20,000 runners and later editions exceeding 17,000 athletes. In 2022, the marathon was listed on the Global Marathon Event List – EMS World Running, becoming the sole Ahmedabad entry on that international platform.

The 2025 "Run for Our Soldier" edition saw over 24,000 participants, including more than 3,000 defence personnel. Proceeds are allocated to welfare schemes for the armed forces, reinforcing the marathon’s commitment to supporting the nation’s protectors.
