Vijay Shankar’s journey takes an unexpected turn as he prepares to represent Candy Royals in the upcoming Lanka Premier League. The move comes only three days after the all-rounder stepped away from Indian Premier League and domestic commitments, signaling a new chapter overseas. At 35, Shankar brings valuable international exposure, having played 12 ODIs and nine T20Is for India. His ability to contribute with both bat and ball at crucial stages makes him an attractive asset for any franchise. Candy Royals have already secured Moeen Ali and Shakib Al Hasan, creating a potent overseas core. The LPL’s sixth season will feature five franchises battling in a double round-robin setup, with matches beginning July 17. Jaffna Kings, the current champions, have retained Shakib along with local stars Dunith Wellalage and Bhanuka Rajapaksa, setting the stage for high-stakes encounters. Beyond the on-field action, West Indies legend Chris Gayle has been named brand ambassador, boosting the tournament’s visibility. Shankar’s addition adds depth and maturity to Candy Royals’ lineup as they target a strong finish in August.
