After 22 Years, Moises Henriques Steps Away from Home Cricket

In a statement released in Sydney on 16 July, Moises Henriques disclosed his decision to retire from the Australian domestic scene after more than two decades of service. The all‑rounder, who debuted for New South Wales at 17, has amassed 420 games across first‑class, List‑A and T20 formats.

Henriques concluded his first‑class career last season but returned for a handful of one‑day matches in the 2025‑26 season, helping NSW clinch the one‑day trophy. He also played a pivotal role in guiding the Sydney Sixers to the Big Bash League final in season 15, although no contract was offered for the 16th edition.

He expressed gratitude toward the coaches, fellow players and support staff who shaped his journey, noting that the strong relationships kept him attached to his home teams despite offers from rival franchises.

Internationally, Henriques earned his Test cap (number 432) in 2013 and represented Australia in all three formats. Looking ahead, he will continue to compete in overseas T20 competitions, representing Portugal in the European qualifiers for the 2028 T20 World Cup and joining Glasgow Cosmic for an upcoming European league. He will also maintain his position as director of the NSW Cricket Foundation starting at the end of 2025.
