A Cristiano Ronaldo double on his return to the Camp Nou, and a Weston McKennie volley saw Juventus end the group stage ahead of Barça
The French centre back, out injured with a knee problem since 27 June when he made his last appearance in a Barça shirt in a 2-2 draw against Celta in Vigo, came on in the second half of the game against Juventus to replace his country man Clément Lenglet who was making his 100th appearance in a Barça shirt.
Juventus won 3-0 courtesy of a brace from Cristiano Ronaldo and a goal from Winston McKennie. The Italians had to better Barcelona’s 2-0 victory over them in Turin in October to steal top spot, and they did.
“I think we lost the game in the first half-hour, as we got off to a bad start, didn’t play well defensively, were lacking aggression in midfield, and Juventus played well,” Ronald Koeman told Sky Sport Italia after the game.
The Frenchman said: “We didn’t turn up. In the first half, they were all over us. We lacked everything: desire, attitude, wanting to run, to defend… everything was bad.”
