40 Crore Investment Aims to Strengthen Boxing Ecosystem Ahead of Asian Games

Indian Oil Corporation has committed INR 40 crore over a two‑year period to boost boxing in India, as part of a tripartite MoU with NSDF and SAI. The investment will be channelled into talent identification programmes, high‑performance coaching, sports‑science support and the modernization of boxing academies nationwide.

A key component of the plan is to provide international exposure to elite prospects, allowing them to compete in overseas tournaments and train with foreign experts. The funding will also support the recruitment and up‑skilling of coaches, referees and technical officials, ensuring a professional support structure at every level.

The initiative comes on the heels of India's successful showing at the 2026 Asian Games, where Indian boxers secured six medals – three gold and three bronze. Officials hope that the enhanced ecosystem will translate into even stronger performances at future multi‑sport events.

The MoU was witnessed by the Union Minister for Sports, the Secretary (Sports), the President of the Boxing Federation of India and Indian Oil’s HR Director, underscoring the high‑level commitment to reviving Indian boxing.
