Over 3 Million Participants Join ‘Fit India Sunday on Cycle’ Across 10,000 Locations

Since its inception in December 2023, the Fit India Sunday on Cycle has become one of the largest grassroots fitness drives in the country. Official figures released by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports reveal that more than 3 million citizens have taken part in the event across over 10 000 sites, from small towns to metropolitan stadiums.

The programme’s core message—“Say yes to fitness, say no to drugs”—has resonated with schools, colleges and local clubs, prompting them to organise early‑morning cycling routes, health workshops and pledge ceremonies. In Delhi, the event at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium saw over a thousand participants pledge to stay away from intoxicants and to promote a culture of well‑being within their families and communities.

Beyond the ride, organisers set up a game zone featuring traditional and modern sports, encouraging children and adults alike to stay active. The surge in participation has been attributed to the combined efforts of the Ministry, the Cycling Federation of India, the Rahgiri Foundation and the My Bharat platform, all of which have provided logistical and promotional support.

The massive turnout underscores the success of the Fit India Movement’s strategy to intertwine health education with community‑level action, positioning fitness as a powerful deterrent against substance abuse among India’s youth.
