20,000-Seat Cricket Arena and 40-Swimmer Training Pool Planned in Assam

Assam’s sports agenda received a major boost as the state’s chief minister inspected the ongoing construction of a 20,000‑capacity cricket stadium and a high‑performance swimming pool at Aminaganj. Both venues are being built to meet international specifications, allowing the state to host prestigious cricket and swimming championships.

The swimming complex is engineered to accommodate roughly 40 athletes at once and will be overseen by the Sports Authority of India. It aims to attract national and global swimming competitions. Parallel to the sporting venues, the government is pursuing a lease of land adjacent to the railway line to erect a multi‑level parking facility that will serve the stadium and ancillary sports structures.

In addition, two hostels are under development. The first will cater to swimmers and badminton players, while the second will provide lodging for about 200 cricket players and their coaches. A six‑lane access road linking the Deputy Commissioner’s office, the stadium, and the pool will enhance connectivity to the national highway and IIT Guwahati, solidifying Assam’s position as a future hub for large‑scale sports events.
