114 Medals: India's Historic Campaign at Asian Para Games 2026

India completed a historic campaign at the Asian Para Games 2026, the fifth edition of the continental event, which was held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The country won 114 medals, its best performance in the history of the Asian Para Games.

The Indian contingent secured 30 gold medals, 35 silver and 49 bronze. These results placed India fourth in the final medal standings, behind China with 427 medals, Japan with 185 and Uzbekistan with 145.

The significance of the result grows when the size of the delegation is considered. India sent 168 athletes to the games, a reduction of 135 from the previous edition. The last time around, 303 Indian para athletes took part in Hangzhou in 2023, winning 27 gold and 108 medals. The record set on that occasion has now been surpassed, as India collected six more medals than before while fielding considerably fewer athletes.

Athletics was the standout discipline. Of the 114 medals India won, 65 came from athletics events, a rise from 53 in the previous edition, which made track and field the most productive area for the team.

The outcome is a testament to the perseverance of India's para athletes and their unwavering commitment to winning for the country on the global platform. Their achievements deserve sincere appreciation, and they offer a strong signal of what the future holds for Indian para sport.

Going forward, the support provided to para athletes needs to be expanded further. Opening doors in disciplines where the country has been absent, together with complete basic facilities and better training, could help India win more medals at upcoming Para Games and improve its place in the medal table.
