Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has labeled Russian leader Vladimir Putin a “man of war” following a devastating aerial assault on Kyiv and its surrounding regions. The attacks, which killed at least two and injured four, underscore Russia’s persistent aggression, according to Zelenskyy.
Speaking in Halifax, Nova Scotia, alongside Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Zelenskyy emphasized Ukraine’s desire for peace while directly contrasting it with Putin’s perceived intentions. “We want peace,” Zelenskyy stated, “And he’s a man of war.”
This strong condemnation comes just before a pivotal meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in Florida. Zelenskyy is expected to present a comprehensive 20-point peace plan designed to bring an end to the prolonged conflict. Trump has previously indicated that any peace proposal would require his endorsement.
During his Canadian stopover, Zelenskyy engaged in crucial discussions with Prime Minister Carney and leaders from both NATO and the European Union. He stressed the necessity of maintaining a robust stance on both military and diplomatic fronts to prevent Russian President Vladimir Putin from circumventing a genuine resolution. “Strong positions are needed both at the front and in diplomacy to prevent Putin from manipulating and evading a real and just end to the war,” Zelenskyy posted on X, adding, “The world has sufficient strength to guarantee security and peace.”
The latest barrage, described by Zelenskyy as involving over 500 drones and 40 missiles, targeted civilian infrastructure and energy facilities in Kyiv. The assault lasted for more than 10 hours, causing significant power outages and damage to residential buildings. Rescue operations are ongoing, with emergency services working to extract individuals trapped under rubble. Repair crews are mobilizing to restore essential services as soon as security conditions permit.
