U.S. Officials Warn Cuba Threatens American Security

The Trump administration has escalated its rhetoric against Cuba, with the president and top diplomats branding the island nation a failed state and a clear danger to U.S. national security. During a White House event, Trump pointed to the lack of electricity, widespread poverty, and food shortages as proof of systemic collapse. He said Cuban-Americans in Florida are ready to invest in and rebuild their ancestral homeland, and he hopes to help them achieve that goal. Rubio, speaking at Homestead Airport in Miami, emphasized the proximity risk, noting that a failing country only 90 miles away, backed by U.S. adversaries, cannot be ignored. He highlighted Russian and Chinese intelligence presence, advanced weapons systems on the island, and Havana’s long-standing support for destabilizing movements throughout Latin America. Miller reinforced the concern that Cuba could serve as a staging ground for attacks on the United States. The administration made it clear that any humanitarian assistance will be delivered only through independent organizations, avoiding any channels connected to the Cuban military. Officials said they remain open to talks but will not tolerate threats so close to American shores.
