The United States has significantly broadened its travel restrictions, with a new proclamation from President Donald Trump adding 20 additional countries to its list. This expansion impacts both temporary visitors and individuals seeking to immigrate to the US, tightening entry requirements.
Under the updated regulations, five nations now face a complete travel ban, while 15 others are subject to partial restrictions. Notably, travel for individuals using documents issued by the Palestinian Authority has been completely prohibited. The White House cited national security concerns as the primary driver for these stringent measures, referencing recent security incidents as justification for enhanced screening protocols.
Existing valid visa holders, lawful permanent residents, diplomats, and certain athletes are among those who will be exempt from the new rules. The administration has yet to announce the exact date these expanded restrictions will take effect. This move revisits a key policy implemented during Trump’s initial presidential term, which first introduced travel limitations in June.
