Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar advised the students of journalism to avoid unnecessary sensation and TRP-centric journalism and said that whatever has been good in the society should also be conveyed to the people.
On Monday, Union Minister Javadekar inaugurated the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) academic session 2020-21, saying that as a journalist, you should listen to all the pros and cons, but to take the society in good direction Only our journalism should work.
He said that keeping the TRP rating in mind, the journalism that is happening is not the right way. The meter installed in 50 thousand houses cannot be the opinion of 22 crore viewers. We will increase its scope, so that it can be known that what people see and what they want to see in the true sense. Javadekar said that journalism is a responsibility, not a means of misuse. If your story has power, then it does not require any drama or sensation. There is so much good news in society, but unfortunately no one shows them. The contribution of journalism in the direction of advancing the society is the religion of journalism.
Javadekar said that the first mantra of journalism is that all the events affecting the lives of people in all walks of life are news, which have to be properly communicated to the people. Media freedom is an important dimension of democracy. Have to take care of it. But this freedom comes with responsibility. So we all have to be responsible as well.
On this occasion, the Director General of IIMC Prof. Sanjay Dwivedi said that it is not our goal to produce only journalists, we want to create global leaders, who will become the biggest and global names in the world of journalism and mass media in the coming ten years.
Additional Director General K.K. Satish Namboodiripad gave the students detailed information about IIMC.
After this, all the faculty members were introduced to the students. In the last session, Dr. Anurag Batra, founder of Exchange 4 Media and Business World, taught the students the tricks of healthy journalism.
