Snowfall has been happening since night and by morning two to three inches of snow has been received in most areas of the city. Not only this, after the snowfall, the temperature has also dropped by five to six degrees Celsius.
At the same time, after overnight snow and rain, the Kashmir Valley has been cut by road from other states of the country. After snowfall and landslides in Jawahar Tunnel and many areas of Banihal, the highway has been closed for vehicular traffic. The Leh-Srinagar highway and the historic Mughal road connecting North Kashmir to Poonch are already closed.
After the snowfall and rain in the night, a sheet of snow has been spread all over Kashmir. When people woke up in Kashmir in the morning, there was snow everywhere. According to the Meteorological Department, the process of light rain and snowfall will continue in the higher reaches of the district Kargil of Jammu and Kashmir, Union Territory of Ladakh today.
At the same time, there is light snowfall in Sonamarg, Zojila, Dras, Jhanskar, while in District Kishtwar of Jammu division. According to the traffic department, landslides have also occurred at Siler Higni, Panthiyal, Trishul Mor. Vehicles have been stopped from moving. After the weather is clear, the snow that falls on the highway and the Jawahar Tunnel will be removed. Only after the route is completely safe, vehicles will be allowed to land on the highway.
