Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to praise the team of Coolie No 1 for going plastic-free and using steel bottles on sets. The makers of the Sara Ali Khan and Varun Dhawan film recently announced that they went plastic-free on sets.

The Prime Minister tweeted, “Superb gesture by the team of #CoolieNo1! Happy to see the film world contributing towards freeing India from single use plastic. (sic).”

Varun Dhawan had earlier shared a photo of the Coolie No 1 team announcing that they are going plastic-free. He wrote, “Being a plastic-free nation is the need of the hour and great intiative taken by our prime minister and we can all do this by making small changes. The sets of #CoolieNo1 will now only use steel bottles. @PMOIndia (sic)”

Varun Dhawan garnered a lot of praise for encouraging the use of steel bottles on Coolie No 1 sets. Several fans congratulated the actor for his initiative. Replying to one such tweet, the actor said that they will now be installing water dispensers on sets and their offices so that people can refill their steel bottles.

He wrote, “Totally ma’am. It’s a bad habit that we are trying to free ourselves from. Trying to get many water dispensers installed in studio canteen areas and offices will be the next step for the film industry.”

The decision to go plastic-free came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to shun single-use plastic in his Independence Day speech. The PM, in his speech encouraged usage of jute and cloth bags to protect the environment.
