Royal Challengers Bengaluru notched up a hat-trick of victories in the Women’s Premier League, demolishing Gujarat Giants by 32 runs thanks to Shreyanka Patil’s lethal spin bowling. The win cements RCB’s position as frontrunners in the tournament.
Electing to bat, RCB got off to a solid start. Sophie Devine and Smriti Mandhana’s aggressive opening stand laid the foundation. Devine fell after a quickfire 36, but Perry’s powerful 43 and contributions from Disha Kasat (22) pushed the score to 157/7. Gujarat’s Meghna Singh and Sneh Rana picked up three scalps each, but couldn’t contain the run flow.
In the chase, Gujarat Giants started steadily but crumbled under RCB’s spin attack. Shreyanka Patil’s four-wicket haul (4/20) was the highlight, her ‘panga’ with the batters evident in every delivery. She dismissed key players like Laura Harris and Ashleigh Gardner with precise googlies. Molineux (2/25) and Shobana (2/22) provided excellent support, bundling out Giants for 125/9.
The match showcased RCB’s depth in both departments. Perry was named Player of the Match for her batting fireworks. Mandhana highlighted the bowlers’ discipline: ‘Our spinners are our strength on these pitches.’
As WPL heats up, RCB’s winning momentum is a warning shot to rivals. Three in a row – can they keep it going?
