President Droupadi Murmu recently made history by embarking on a dived sortie aboard the Indian Navy’s indigenous Kalvari-class submarine, INS Vaghsheer. The significant event took place at the Karwar Naval Base in Karnataka, highlighting a rare military experience for the nation’s Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. Accompanied by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, the President explored the capabilities of this advanced underwater platform.
This marks President Murmu’s inaugural journey on a Kalvari-class submarine, an experience previously only shared by former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. During the sortie, she was apprised of the vital strategic role of the submarine arm within India’s maritime doctrine. The briefing covered the submarine’s operational prowess and its crucial contribution to safeguarding India’s extensive maritime interests.
President Murmu also took the opportunity to interact with the dedicated crew of INS Vaghsheer. She commended their unwavering professionalism, spirit of service, and commitment. The President lauded the indigenous submarine as a testament to the Indian Navy’s excellence, readiness, and dedication to national security. This underwater exploration follows her recent aerial experiences, including a sortie in a Rafale fighter jet earlier this year.
