In a landmark event, President Droupadi Murmu experienced the power of India’s indigenous naval strength by embarking on the Kalvari-class submarine, INS Vaghsheer, at the Karwar Naval Base in Karnataka. This historic dived sortie marks a significant moment, underscoring the nation’s advancements in maritime defense. Accompanied by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces engaged with the submarine’s operations firsthand.
This maiden underwater voyage aboard a Kalvari-class submarine by President Murmu is a rare feat, only the second time an Indian President has had such an experience, following Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
