In May 1951, Visva-Bharati was declared a Central University and ‘Institute of National Importance’ by an Act of Parliament. This university followed the developed pedagogy of Gurudev Tagore but gradually it adopted the model in which a modern university develops. The Prime Minister is the Chancellor of this university.
