PM Modi launches nation-wide ‘Fit India’ Movement

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that fit and healthy nation is the call of New India. Launching a nation-wide ‘Fit India’ Movement on the occasion of National Sports Day in New Delhi today, Mr Modi said, fitness is not just a word but a necessary condition of healthy and prosperous life. 

He said, fitness has been an integral part of life in India but over time, people have become indifferent to fitness. He said the physical activity has been reduced with the advent of technology.

Stressing the need to make fitness a mass movement, Mr Modi said, lifestyle diseases are happening due to lifestyle disorders and it can be cured by changing lifestyle. 

He said many lifestyle diseases like diabetes, hypertension are increasing in India and small lifestyle changes can prevent these diseases. He asserted that the Fit India Movement is to inspire the country for these changes.

The Prime Minister urged the people to lead the Fit India campaign saying the initiative is the need of the hour and will take the country towards a healthier future. He said, people of the country will carry forward this campaign and will take it to the height of success. 
He said the relationship of success and fitness is also interlinked and most of the successful people are fit.

Remembering Hockey Wizard Major Dhyanchand whose birth anniversary is celebrated as National Sports Day, Mr. Modi said, today is the day to congratulate India’s young players, who are constantly giving new glory to the tricolor at the world stage. 

He said, be it Badminton, Tennis, Athletics, Boxing, Wrestling or other sports, Indian players are giving new wings to country’s expectations and aspirations.
