Prime Miniter Narendra Modi today (October 21) expressed his gratitude to police personnel and their families all across India. He also paid his tributes to all the police personnel martyred in the line of duty. He further said that their sacrifice and service would always be remembered.

We are proud of their diligence and readiness to assist citizens.
The day commemorates the sacrifices of ten policemen while defending the borders with China in 1959, besides 34,408 other police personnel, who have sacrificed their lives since independence to safeguard the unity and integrity of the nation.
Indian Police personnel were responsible for manning the 2,500 mile long border of India with Tibet until the autumn of 1959.
