Palamu, India – Palamu Police has intensified its campaign to curb the illegal cultivation and smuggling of narcotic substances, delivering a significant blow to illicit drug operations. On Wednesday, December 24, 2025, police conducted operations across various police station areas, not only eradicating acres of opium crops but also using advanced technology to survey potential cultivation sites.
In Manatu police station’s jurisdiction, specifically in the forest areas of Jhanti village, authorities received credible information about large-scale opium cultivation. A swift response by the police team led to the identification of approximately 7 acres of opium plants. The crops, still in their early stages, were completely destroyed by police using tractors. This decisive action has sent shockwaves through the illegal drug trade network.
Meanwhile, in Pipratand police station area, the police employed modern technology by conducting aerial surveillance using drone cameras and ground verification. Fortunately, during this inspection, no opium cultivation was found in the area. It was noted that farmers in these previously affected regions are now cultivating legal crops like pulses and oilseeds, indicating a positive shift. To prevent any resurgence of illegal farming, the police have decided to maintain continuous patrolling and surveillance in these areas.
Palamu Police reiterated that this campaign will continue until there is a complete halt to the production and trafficking of narcotic drugs. The administration has appealed to the public for cooperation, urging citizens to report any information regarding illegal cultivation or smuggling immediately. Assurances of complete confidentiality for informants have been provided.
