Dhaka police have identified two prime suspects in the assassination of political activist Osman Hadi, stating they fled to India shortly after the crime. According to additional commissioner SN Nazrul Islam, the individuals, Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Sheikh, escaped across the border into India via the Haluaghat route in Mymensingh. Police intelligence suggests they were initially met by an individual named Purti and subsequently transported by a taxi driver named Sami to Tura in Meghalaya, India. Authorities are reportedly awaiting official confirmation from Indian counterparts regarding the alleged detention of Purti and Sami, who are believed to have aided the suspects’ escape. Dhaka is actively engaged with Indian authorities through diplomatic and law enforcement channels to facilitate the arrest and extradition of the fugitives. Osman Hadi, a prominent activist and critic of the previous government, was fatally shot in Dhaka on December 12 and later died in Singapore. His murder triggered significant unrest and violence across Bangladesh, including attacks on media houses and cultural organizations, and heightened political and communal tensions.
