Modi Christodoulides Explore IMEC Trade Corridor

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides engaged in detailed discussions about the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor during their bilateral meeting in New Delhi. The conversation centered on IMEC's potential to revolutionize international commerce and strengthen connectivity networks spanning from Asia to Europe. Foreign Secretary West Sibi George emphasized that connectivity forms an essential component of India's diplomatic engagement with both the European Union and Cyprus. The two countries have established a dedicated bilateral connectivity dialogue to facilitate ongoing cooperation in this critical area. The IMEC project, originally launched during the 2023 G20 Leaders Summit in New Delhi, involves collaboration among India, the European Union, France, Germany, Italy, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and the United States. The corridor's dual structure includes an eastern route connecting India to the Gulf and a northern route linking the Gulf region to European markets. Key objectives include improving trade accessibility, enhancing supply chain security, and creating new employment opportunities across participating regions. Both leaders also discussed broader regional stability concerns in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East areas.
