A wave of jubilation swept through Giridih on Friday following the Jharkhand government’s approval of the PESA rules in a cabinet meeting on December 23rd. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) organized a ‘Gratitude March’ to express their profound thanks to Chief Minister Hemant Soren and his administration for fulfilling a long-standing demand of tribal self-governance in scheduled areas. The festivities kicked off at the JMM district office with the distribution of sweets, followed by a vibrant procession featuring drums and banners, which culminated at Tower Chowk. District President Sanjay Singh highlighted that this historic achievement, realized after 25 years of Jharkhand’s formation, will empower Gram Sabhas, giving them a decisive voice in the selection and implementation of development projects. He emphasized that the PESA law’s enactment ensures the protection of rights over ‘Jal, Jungle, and Zameen’ (water, forests, and land). District Secretary Mahalal Soren and others, including Nunuram Kisku alias Tiger and District Spokesperson Krishna Murari Sharma, hailed the move as a monumental step towards strengthening villages and the state as a whole. Hundreds of party workers and local residents participated in the celebratory event.
