TheUnion Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has recently issued notification regarding the amendments made in the Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989. These changes will come into effect from October 1, 2020. According to the information of the department, the use of IT services and electronic monitoring will lead to better compliance of traffic rules and drivers will get rid of harassment. Now, drivers will not need to keep driving license, vehicle registration certificate and vehicle documents with them. They will be able to save it in DigiLocker or m-parivahan. Documents of vehicles found to be valid through electronic means will not be physically demanded for examination. The details of disqualified or revoked driving license by the licensing authority will be recorded in the portal and will be updated from time to time. The behavior of such drivers will also be monitored. Drivers will be allowed to keep their vehicle documents (driving license, RC) in central government online portals like DigiLocker or m-parivahan. Due to this facility, they will not have to keep documents with them and will get rid of the problem of e-challan.
