Fast-speed internet transported to Andaman by laying 2,312 KM cable within the sea – know important things related to OFC

Submarine Optical Fiber Cable: Mobile, broadband and landline telecommunication services in Andaman and Nicobar Islands will be better and reliable with the launch of this project. These services will be like other parts of the country.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi (PM Narendra Modi) will inaugurate the 2,312 km long Chennai-Andaman Nicobar Islands (CANI) submarine optical fiber cable (OFC) project today. PM Modi will launch it through video conferencing. This cable lay within the sea will also connect Swaraj Deep (Havelock), Little Andaman, Car Nicobar, Kamorata, Great Nicobar, Long Island and Ranget to Port Blair. The foundation stone of this project was laid by the Prime Minister in Port Blair in December 2018 and the project has been completed in due time.

With the launch of this project , mobile, broadband and landline telecommunication services in Andaman and Nicobar Islands will be better and reliable. These services will be like other parts of the country. This will also improve 4G services there. Submarine optical fiber cable link will provide 2×200 gigabit bandwidth (Gbps) between Chennai and Port Blair. Will give 2×100 Gbps between Port Blair and other islands.

This will provide reliable, robust and high-speed telecommunications and broadband facilities on these islands, which will be a remarkable achievement from the customers as well as strategic and operational perspectives. According to the official statement, ‘Better telecom and broadband connectivity facility will give a boost to tourism and job creation in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Also, it will strengthen the economy and improve people’s living standards. Better connectivity will give a boost to telemedicine and tele-education. ”

Andaman Nicobar Chief Secretary Chetan Sanghi said, “All the Andaman islands are thankful to the heart of the Government of India and mainly to the Hon’ble Prime Minister for the under sea cable connecting Chennai to Andaman by the Government of India. . When he (PM Modi) came here in December 2018, laid the foundation stone of this in Andaman and the dream that Andaman residents have been dreaming for 20 years is going to be fulfilled now.

Explain that the project is being executed by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), while Telecommunication Consultants India Limited (TCIL) was a technical consultant. About 2300 km of OFC has been laid for this project, at a cost of about Rs 1,224 crore. (Also from input language)
