Australian all-rounder Cameron Green is feeling confident about his batting prowess ahead of the third Ashes Test in Adelaide. Despite a career marked by injuries, Green, who has played 34 Tests in five years, believes his game has reached new heights.
“I feel like I’m a better batter than I was a few years ago, and hopefully I’m a better batter in the future than now,” Green stated. He attributes this growth to developing a wider range of shots and increased confidence in his ability to adapt to different situations. “When you first start, you’ve probably got a cover drive and a pull shot. Where now you got to walk down the wicket, you’ve got a bit more confidence to back away, play certain shots that you find that are appropriate for that situation.”
Green credits the experienced players in the Australian squad, such as Steve Smith, Usman Khawaja, and Marnus Labuschagne, for his development. Observing their methods in various match scenarios has been invaluable. “I think that’s the beauty of being in a team of really experienced guys around me that I’m watching them, how they go about it in certain situations, and then trying to build that into my game,” he explained.
The 26-year-old acknowledged a recent learning experience during the first Test, where a misjudged shot led to his dismissal. He was outfoxed by a well-executed yorker after attempting to create room against a barrage of bouncers. “It looks quite bad when you get out. You walk off a little bit embarrassed. But I think they’re really great learnings for future games,” Green admitted.
He remains focused on the team’s goal of sealing the Ashes series in Adelaide, while acknowledging England’s past ability to mount comebacks. Australia currently leads the series 2-0. “That’s a good reminder for our team to stay really level,” he commented, emphasizing the importance of maintaining focus. The third Test is scheduled to commence on December 17th.
