Giridih police have apprehended three sophisticated cybercriminals responsible for amassing vast fortunes through online fraud. These individuals, identified as Khurshid Ansari from Dharleto village, Alamgir Ansari from Chetnari in Deoghar, and Md. Sharafat Ansari from Jhilua in Deoghar district, were apprehended following a tip-off. Authorities seized a significant haul from the suspects, including eight mobile phones, ten SIM cards, two motorcycles, two ATM cards, an Aadhaar card, a PAN card, and a driving license. The operation was orchestrated under the guidance of Giridih SP Dr. Vimal Kumar.
Intelligence gathered through the ‘Pratibimb’ portal indicated fraudulent activities occurring near Telkhari forest in Kachhel village. A dedicated team, led by Cyber DSP Abid Khan, was formed to investigate. Their swift action led to the successful arrest of the three cyber offenders. During interrogation, the arrested individuals confessed to their modus operandi, which included posing as customer care representatives for various service companies by listing fake mobile numbers on Google. They also impersonated Airtel Payment Bank officials and distributed malicious APK file links for fake bank wallets, among other deceptive tactics. Furthermore, the group was reportedly involved in supplying counterfeit ATM cards and SIM cards to other cybercriminals.
SP Dr. Vimal Kumar highlighted that the apprehended cybercriminals have active cases against them in multiple states. Sharafat Ansari, in particular, has a prior record, including a jail term, for cybercrime in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, and faces online complaints in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand. His alleged earnings from cyber fraud exceed ₹60 lakh, and he is known to own a Mahindra XUV. Alamgir Ansari is also reported to have accumulated over ₹25 lakh through similar fraudulent activities.
