In a brazen daylight theft, thieves targeted a vacant residence in Jhumritilaiya, Koderma, making off with an estimated Rs 14.5 lakh worth of jewelry and cash. The incident has once again highlighted concerns over rising crime rates and the police’s struggle to curb such incidents in the city. The home, belonging to a retired bank employee, Sanjay Ghosh, was left unattended for approximately 25 days as he was visiting his daughter in Ranchi. Ghosh had entrusted a neighbor, Sandeep Mukherjee, with his house keys. Suspicion arose when a neighbor informed Mukherjee on Saturday night that the rear door of Ghosh’s house was ajar. Upon inspection, Mukherjee discovered a broken window grill, indicating a forced entry. A quick look inside revealed ransacked rooms. The theft, which included approximately Rs 14 lakh in jewelry and Rs 50,000 in cash, was discovered by Ghosh upon his return. The family is devastated by the loss, and police are actively investigating, reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the perpetrators.
