₹1,00,00,100 for a photo stand and ₹1,00,00,300 for a coconut kalash! As part of the ongoing e-auction of gifts presented to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a photo stand of the PM with a base price of ₹500 and a coconut kalash with a base price of ₹18,000 have fetched over ₹1 crore as the highest bids.
The second phase of the auction of gifts, which began on 14 September, is set to go on until 3 October. The auction is conducted online. However, the mementos are on display at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Delhi. The proceeds from the auction will be used for the central governments scheme – Namami Gange.
The e-auction includes over 2,700 mementos, including paintings, sculptures, shawls, jackets and traditional musical instruments. The lowest base price of the mementos is ₹200 and goes all the way up to ₹2.5 lakh.
Among the closed auctions, an idol of a cow feeding a calf fetched ₹51 lakh, a copy of the Indian Constitution with a base price of ₹2,000 received the highest bid of ₹33,000. Other items available in the auction include, a portrait of PM Modi with a base price of ₹2.5 lakh, a mace with a base price of ₹2,000, and other idols.
Launching the auction, union minister of state for culture and tourism Prahlad Singh Patel said Prime Minister Modi was the first Prime Minister of India, who has decided to auction all the gifts he receives for a noble cause of conserving the lifeline of the country- the river Ganges through Namami Gange.
