SRINAGAR: The Lt-Governor administration will name schools in Jammu and Kashmir after the police, Central Reserve Police Force and Army personnel killed in militancy related violence in the last three decades.
In a communiqué sent to deputy commissioners of all 10 districts of Jammu region Jammu, Kathua, Doda, Poonch, Ramban, Samba, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Udhampur and Reasi the Divisional Commissioner of Jammu, Raghav Langer, has directed them to identify government schools in the villages and municipal wards of their respective districts to be renamed after the martyred security personnel. The Divisional Commissioners have been directed to submit the list of schools before August 5.
The circular also directs the DCs to set up committees at the district level “to prepare such details after due verification” “SSP/ADC/DPO or AC Panchayat/Representative of the Army/etc. can be included in the committee to finalise the list at district level,” reads the circular sent to the deputy commissioners. The Jammu and Kashmir government has also directed that the Tricolour be hoisted on all government buildings, offices and schools across the Union Territory on Independence Day.
Reacting to the government order on naming of schools after security men killed in the line of duty, PDP leader Mohit Bhan tweeted, “Another government order to divide, politicise armed forces & civilians in the name of nationalism. Over 8,000 political workers in J&K have given the supreme sacrifice of their lives to keep the democracy alive since 1947-2021; where’s their honour?”
