Centre bans 8 YouTube channels for spreading ‘disinformation and fake anti-India content’

The Union Ministry of Information & Broadcasting on Thursday blocked 8 YouTube-based news channels. The blocked YouTube channels, which had a cumulative viewership of over 114 crore, were subscribed by over 85 lakh users.

These YouTube channels were spreading disinformation related to India’s national security, foreign relations and public order, the goverment cited as reason behind the move. The channels were also spread hatred among religious communities in India. False claims were made in various videos of the blocked YouTube channels.

Earlier in July, I&B ministry had blocked 94 YouTube channels, 19 social media accounts and 747 uniform resource locators (URLs) during 2021-22 for spreading fake news.
