Zero‑Commission, No‑Surge Taxi Service to Reach Rural UP

A new transport initiative in Uttar Pradesh promises to eliminate hidden costs for commuters. The "Bharat Taxi" model, which started in Lucknow and Kanpur, will be extended to every district, delivering a zero‑commission, no‑surge pricing structure to both urban and rural riders.

The scheme relies on Primary Agricultural Credit Societies to bring the service into villages, ensuring that people living far from city centers can book bikes, autos or cabs at predictable rates. This is especially important for journeys to hospitals, markets, railway stations and government offices.

Zero‑commission means the platform does not retain a percentage of each fare. Instead, the entire amount goes directly to the driver, who also becomes a member of the cooperative. The no‑surge policy prevents fare inflation during peak periods, offering financial certainty to regular travelers.

Drivers stand to gain a share of the cooperative’s overall earnings, turning them into partners rather than contracted workers. This model is expected to strengthen the driver network, improve vehicle availability and create a sustainable income stream for local operators.

Implementation will begin shortly, with priority given to districts lacking organized taxi services. If the program delivers on its promises, it could become a template for inclusive mobility solutions across India's larger states.
