Yogi Adityanath contrasts 50‑kg flood relief with SP’s inadequate aid in Uttar Pradesh

During a surprise visit to flood‑affected villages in Ballia on August 29, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that the state is supplying relief packages that weigh about 50 kilograms per family. He sharply criticized the previous Samajwadi Party regime for being unable to deliver even a 500‑gram packet to the same people. The CM credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “double‑engine” leadership for ensuring that aid reaches the poor, the youth, women and agrarian communities with honesty and speed.

Heavy rainfall has impacted 26 districts, displacing more than 1.71  lakh residents across 251 villages. Over a thousand people have been shifted to relief shelters, and the CM distributed food and medical kits to 1,500 families after an aerial inspection of three constituencies.

The relief kit’s contents include 10 kg each of wheat and rice, 2 kg of lentils, 1 kg of sugar, biscuits, cooking oil, salt, sanitary pads, clothing, a bucket, a lantern, a small umbrella and other essential items. Health kits provide ORS powder, essential medicines and chlorine tablets to prevent water‑borne diseases. All community health centers and district hospitals have been stocked with anti‑snake and anti‑rabies vaccines in response to an increase in snake bites and animal attacks during the floods.

The government has also rolled out compensation measures: up to four lakh rupees for snake‑bite deaths, similar support for fatalities caused by wild‑animal attacks or stray‑dog bites, and a five‑lakh‑rupee payout for farmers or their dependents who lose lives or property in floods. Affected families will receive land‑lease parcels and housing under central and state schemes. The CM urged the Water Resources Ministry to expedite dredging of the Ghaghara River and construction of embankments to provide a permanent solution to the flood problem.
