Yashodhara Raje Sindhia urges party introspection following setbacks in MP and Bihar

Veteran BJP leader Yashodhara Raje Sindhia has called for a thorough introspection within the party after two recent by‑election defeats. Posting a concise message on X, Sindhia wrote, “It is time for self‑reflection.” Her statement followed the BJP’s loss in Madhya Pradesh’s Datia constituency and the setback in Bihar’s Bankipur seat.

In Datia, Congress candidate Ghanashyam Singh secured 66,757 votes (42.39%), defeating BJP’s Ashutosh Tiwari, who managed 60,741 votes (38.57%). AAP’s Damodar Yadav finished third with 22,527 votes (14.30%). The count showed Congress steadily increasing its lead, and despite a late surge, the BJP could not close the gap.

Across state lines, Bankipur’s by‑poll saw Jan Suraj’s founder Prashant Kishor claim a decisive victory, garnering 63,203 votes. BJP’s Neeraj Kumar Sinha obtained 44,250 votes, while RKD’s Rekha Gupta earned 14,085 votes. The margin of 18,953 votes underscored the scale of the loss, even as the Election Commission awaited formal certification.

Bihar minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, responding to the Bankipur result, affirmed the party’s respect for democratic outcomes and promised to accept the electorate’s decision. Sindhia’s appeal for “self‑reflection” has intensified internal debates on the BJP’s electoral strategy, candidate selection, and grassroots organization ahead of upcoming state elections.

Political observers suggest that the twin defeats may signal deeper challenges for the BJP, prompting a re‑examination of campaign tactics and outreach in both central and eastern regions.
